Our Story

ABOUT THE THEATER

With 500 seats, the 19,000 square-foot Dorothy Jemison Day (DJD) Theater offers the Birmingham arts community a beautiful mid-sized facility. The theater also benefits all areas of Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA), providing an environment in which ASFA students learn the inner-workings of performing on a professional stage.

Parking options when attending events at DJD Theater:

ASFA Parking Lots (Free)

  • The Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) parking lot is available free of charge to DJD patrons after 5:00 PM on weekdays and anytime on weekends.
  • Parking is first-come, first-served in the reserved spaces in front of ASFA and in the small lot across 18th Street.
  • Tow-away signs do not apply to DJD patrons during these approved times.
  • Important: This is a one-way entry area. Enter only from Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. & 18th Street.

 Street Parking (Free)

  • Surrounding street parking is free after 6:00 PM on weekdays and all day on weekends.

BJCC/Boutwell Parking Deck (Paid)

  • Located at 801 19th Street North, directly across from the DJD Theater.
  • Parking fees are not controlled by the DJD Theater.

CityWalk Parking

  • CityWalk parking is controlled by the City, and the DJD cannot guarantee closing times or availability in this lot.
